1. General Information and Principles of Data Processing
We are pleased that you are visiting our website. Protecting your privacy and your personal data—known as personal information—when you use our website is a matter of great importance to us.
According to Article 4(1) of the GDPR, personal data refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. This includes, for example, information such as your first and last name, your address, your phone number, your email address, and your IP address. Data for which no connection to your person can be established—such as through anonymization—is not considered personal data.
Processing (e.g., collection, storage, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure, erasure, or destruction) pursuant to Article 4(2) of the GDPR always requires a legal basis or your consent. Processed personal data must be deleted as soon as the purpose of the processing has been achieved and there are no longer any legally required retention obligations to be observed.
Here you will find information about how we handle your personal data when you visit our website. In order to provide the functions and services of our website, it is necessary for us to collect personal data about you. We also explain to you the nature and scope of the respective data processing, the purpose and the corresponding legal basis, and the respective retention period.
This privacy policy applies only to this website. It does not apply to other websites to which we merely link via a hyperlink. We cannot assume any responsibility for the confidential handling of your personal data on these third-party websites, as we have no influence over whether these companies comply with data protection regulations. Please refer directly to these websites for information on how these companies handle your personal data.

c) Retention period
As soon as the aforementioned personal data is no longer required to display the website, it will be deleted. The collection of data for the provision of the website and the storage of data in log files is absolutely necessary for the operation of the website. Consequently, the user has no right to object to this aspect. Further storage may occur in individual cases if required by law.

We use cookies. Cookies are small files that we send to the browser on your device during your visit to our website and that are stored there.
Some functions of our website cannot be provided without the use of technically necessary cookies. Other cookies, however, enable us to perform various analyses. For example, some cookies can recognize the browser you are using when you visit our website again and transmit various information to us. We use cookies to facilitate and improve the use of our website. For example, cookies allow us to make our website more user-friendly and effective for you by, for instance, tracking your use of our website and determining your preferred settings (such as country and language settings). If third parties process information via cookies, they collect this information directly through your browser. However, cookies do not cause any damage to your device. They cannot execute programs and do not contain viruses. Various types of cookies are used on our website; their types and functions are explained below.
Temporary Cookies/Session Cookies
Our website uses so-called temporary cookies or session cookies, which are automatically deleted as soon as you close your browser. This type of cookie makes it possible to record your session ID. This allows various requests from your browser to be assigned to a single session and enables us to recognize your device during subsequent visits to the website.
Persistent Cookies
Our website uses so-called persistent cookies. Persistent cookies are cookies that are stored in your browser for an extended period and can transmit information. The storage duration varies depending on the cookie. You can delete persistent cookies yourself via your browser settings.
Third-party cookies
We use analytical cookies to monitor anonymized user behavior on our website.
We also use advertising cookies. These cookies allow us to track user behavior for advertising and targeted marketing purposes.
Social media cookies allow you to connect to your social networks and share content from our website within your networks.
Configuring browser settings
Most web browsers are set by default to automatically accept cookies. However, you can configure your browser to accept only certain cookies or none at all. Please note, however, that you may then no longer be able to use all features of our website.
You can also use your browser settings to delete cookies already stored in your browser. Furthermore, it is possible to set your browser to notify you before cookies are stored. Since different browsers may function differently, we ask that you consult your browser’s help menu for the relevant configuration options.
Disabling the use of cookies may require the storage of a permanent cookie on your computer. If you subsequently delete this cookie, you will need to disable it again.
b) Legal Basis
Based on the purposes described, the legal basis for the processing of personal data using cookies is Article 6(1)f) of the GDPR. If you have given us your consent to the use of cookies based on a notice provided by us on the website (“cookie banner”), the legal basis is additionally Article 6(1)a) of the GDPR.
c) Retention Period
As soon as the data transmitted to us via cookies is no longer required for the purposes described above, this information will be deleted. Further storage may occur in individual cases if required by law.

c) Retention period
The data will be deleted as soon as it is no longer necessary for the purpose of its processing.
In addition, statutory retention obligations may apply, such as commercial or tax law retention obligations under the German Commercial Code (HGB) or the German Fiscal Code (AO). If such retention obligations exist, we will block or delete your data upon the expiration of these retention obligations.

The legal basis for processing, in the case of consent, is Art. 6(1)a) GDPR. If your registration serves to prepare for the conclusion of a contract, Art. 6(1)b) GDPR is an additional legal basis.
c) Retention Period
We will store the data collected during registration for as long as you are registered on our website, after which it will be deleted. Statutory retention periods remain unaffected.

c) Retention period
The data you enter in the contact form will remain with us until you request its deletion, revoke your consent to its storage, or the purpose for data storage no longer applies (e.g., after your inquiry has been processed). Additional Information on the ShopperHopper App
The following information applies to the ShopperHopper app (Android) and its server api.shopperhopper.de. ShopperHopper works without a user account: we never ask for your email address or a password. The app contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools and no crash reporting, and it accesses neither your location nor your contacts.
Lists on your device
Lists that you do not share are stored exclusively on your device and are not transmitted to us. This also applies to your own product photos that you attach to an item – they remain on your device, even in shared lists. If you uninstall the app, this data is deleted.
Device ID
As soon as the app needs the server for the first time – for example to share a list or to recognize a term – it generates a random device ID (8 characters) and uses it to register with our server. The associated access key is stored on the server only as a hash value. The ID contains no information about you or your device; it serves to assign your shared lists and settings. If a device has not connected for twelve months, we delete it together with the associated data – but not while a Premium subscription is active.
Shared lists
If you share a list, we store on our server the list name, the items (product, freely entered detail, quantity, unit, markers such as “ASAP”, whether an item is in the cart), your own categories and their order, as well as the membership. All members of the list can see this data. Invitations are made via QR code, link or a short code that you pass on yourself; an invitation is valid for 24 hours and for up to five people. When a code is redeemed, we keep your IP address in the server’s memory for one hour to prevent codes from being guessed; it is not stored.
We delete a list without members and without a valid invitation after 30 days, together with its items. Deleted items are kept on the server for another 30 days so that the deletion reaches all devices, and are then permanently removed. We delete expired invitation codes after seven days.
Your name (optional)
Under “Your name” you can enter a name of your choice (at most 60 characters). It is shown only to the members of your shared lists, together with the information who added, changed or put which item in the cart and when. Without a name, “someone” is shown there. On the other members’ devices, the name remains stored until the app is deleted there.
Recognizing unknown terms
If you put a term on the list that the catalog does not yet know, the app sends this term to our server. The server has a service provider (Google, see below) assign it to a product; only the term is sent to Google, no device ID. If the product is missing from the catalog, we add it with a neutral image generated by an AI; it is then available to all users. The text you entered is never used unchanged for image generation.
For a newly created product, we store for one day which device triggered it – we need this to limit image generation per device and day. We keep the entered text for 90 days so that we can check whether the assignment was correct; after the first day it is no longer linked to any device. In addition, we count which terms were searched for that the catalog did not know. This count contains no device ID and no other reference to you; we delete a term twelve months after it was last searched for.
Photo recognition
If you take a photo of a product to put it on the list, the app sends the photo in reduced size to our server, which forwards it to Google for recognition. Our server neither stores nor logs the photo; only the recognized product is counted, without reference to your device. How many photos a device can have recognized per day is counted by the server in memory; the counter is not stored.
Voice input
If you tap the microphone in the search field, your speech is sent to your device’s speech recognition service for conversion into text – on Android usually Google. ShopperHopper itself does not store any recordings and does not send any recording to our server; only the recognized text is used. If you use your keyboard’s microphone instead, the terms of your keyboard app apply.
Your own categories
If you create your own categories, the app reports their names and the catalog products sorted into them to our server, together with your device ID. This lets us see which categories many users are missing so that we can add them to the catalog for everyone. A category is shown to us only once at least three devices have created the same one. Each report replaces the previous one; if you delete a category in the app, it is also removed from the server. You can object to this processing at any time: if you switch off “Share my own categories” in the list menu, the server deletes your report, and the app reports nothing until you switch it back on.
Reporting an image
If you report an unsuitable product image, we store the product, the image version and the reason you selected – without device ID and without free text.
Premium and purchases
You take out Premium via Google Play; Google is the contracting party for the purchase and payment. We receive no payment data, only a purchase receipt (purchase ID, product, status and term), which we verify with Google. A purchase can apply to up to five devices in a household; for this we store which device IDs it covers. We delete purchase receipts twelve months after the subscription ends. If you redeem a Premium code, we store which device redeemed it.
Server and service providers
Our server is operated by 1blu GmbH in a data center in Frankfurt am Main, Germany; a data processing agreement is in place with 1blu. All connections between the app and the server are encrypted (HTTPS). The server logs access with IP address, time and requested address; these logs are deleted after 14 days. We back up the database in encrypted form; deleted data may remain in these backups for up to 30 days.
For recognizing terms and photos and for generating product images, we use Google (Gemini API) as a service provider. A transfer of data to third countries, in particular to the USA, cannot be ruled out. Any transfer to the USA takes place on the basis of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, under which Google LLC is certified. This ensures an adequate level of data protection pursuant to Art. 45 GDPR. According to Google, requests to the paid Gemini API are retained for up to 55 days to detect abuse and are not used to train its models. Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Deleting your data
With “Delete my data on the server” in the app’s list menu, you immediately remove your device from our server together with its memberships, invitations and reports; lists that belonged only to you are deleted as well. Items that you wrote in other people’s lists remain there because they are part of their shopping list. An active Premium subscription is not cancelled by this; that is done via Google Play. You can also exercise your rights at any time via the contact details given above (Section 2). Since there is no user account, however, we usually cannot match an email request to a device – the delete function in the app is therefore the more reliable way.
Legal basis of the processing
Personal data is processed on the basis of the following articles of the GDPR:
- Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR: performance of a contract – for the functions you use in the app and that are necessary for them: device ID, shared lists, your name, recognition of terms and photos, and the handling of Premium
- Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: legitimate interest – for access logs and backups, for the limits against abuse (code attempts, image generation and photo recognition per device and day) and for the evaluation of your own categories to improve the catalog. You may object to processing on this basis at any time; for your own categories, the switch in the app is sufficient.
